Anatomy guru Eugene Clark has taken many skeletons out of the closet, but none more significant, than the one he will explore this September 4th, 2025. He and his students, will embark on a one year artistic anatomy journey, mastering both the skeleton and major muscles of the human figure, creating their own anatomy sketchbook, and, 15” standing figure sculpture, at the Moose Tree Studio, in Lake Orion, Michigan.
The artistic anatomy course taught by Eugene Clark Artist, is offered through Heath Art, in its 21st year of presenting professional art courses. It is a culmination of Clark’s 35 year teaching career, with affiliations including the College for Creative Studies and Oakland University, among others. “This one year artistic anatomy professional certificate course, will be taught similar to my college course, for a fraction of the cost”, says Eugene Clark, “and the course is certified by NAAS, National Artistic Anatomy Society, giving students the opportunity to earn a professional certificate.”
Eugene Clark began his quest to uncover human anatomy in his artwork, as a student at the College for Creative Studies in the early 80’s, studying with famed anatomist Russell Keeter. “Russell’s approach was exciting, while challenging, and opened my mind to a world, that artist’s like Leonardo Da Vinci, dedicated a lifetime to”, says Clark.
This intrigue has fueled Clark’s interest in artistic anatomy, carving a path to teaching thousands of students, passing down the valuable information bestowed upon him. “This is really about sharing what I’ve learned from Keeter, to as many artists who would like to learn”, says Clark. He gives a nod to other anatomists in the lineage of the artistic anatomy tradition including Robert Beverly Hale, who taught Keeter, to George Bridgeman, who taught Hale.
